“bienvenidos a Asado”

The newest gaucho on the block, Asado, on the Southbank, is the latest restaurant by The San Telmo Group.

In theme with its sibling venues’ philosophy, Asado is unabashedly BBQ focused – with a menu of signature premium meats including O’Connor’s beef, lamb from Gippsland and Western Plains pork

 Parrilla Charcoal Cooking

An open fire pit and three metre bespoke charcoal parrilla grill is the spiritual and culinary centre of Asado – paying homage to the incomparable style and culinary ethos of Argentinian slow-cooked barbeque.

In the press

Unlike the traditional Argentinian food of San Telmo, and Palermo that nods to Argentina’s Italian influences, Asado has a Spanish focus. Tapas to start includes pan con tomate (toast smeared with olive oil and fresh tomato); salt cod croquettes; charred baby octopus; and a bowl of artichoke hearts, chunky and creamy, served with cherry tomatoes and vinegar – a dish that’ll have you dreaming of markets in the south of Spain.

Adding South American swagger to Southbank, Asado is the fourth meat and- malbec venue from the San Telmo team. It’s the largest of the family, a 250-seat behemoth cleverly broken into booth and bar seating that’s stylishly on theme – hides and leather, chequered tiled floors and cool mosaic murals – where cow is king and fire fuels the fun.
— Delicious
The pedigree behind Asado meant that expectations were always going to be high, and thankfully Asado doesn’t disappoint. The meat is some of the best in town, with a perfect level of char, salt, tenderness and flavour, and the sides and non-meat dishes all stand on their own. The quality of dining in Southbank has improved immensely in recent years, and with Asado in the area, there’s now even more reason to head to the area.
